Job Description:
At Canberra Montessori School, we are committed to providing a nurturing, inclusive, and authentic Montessori learning environment. We are currently seeking a dedicated Classroom Assistant to work alongside our Cycle 1 and Cycle 2 Directors, supporting the daily rhythm of the classroom, and contributing to a prepared and respectful learning environment for all students.
Key Roles & Responsibilities
·         Assist the classroom Director in maintaining a calm and engaging classroom aligned with Montessori principles;
·         Support students’ development through observation and assistance with self-directed learning activities;
·         Help maintain the prepared environment by organising and caring for classroom materials and classroom environment;
·         Provide respectful, responsive support to children individually or in small groups, while encouraging independence and self-confidence;
·         Assist in the implementation of routines and transitions;
·         Supervise students during break times and outdoor activities, ensuring their safety and well-being;
·         Support inclusive practices by being attuned to the needs of each child and offering appropriate support within the Montessori framework.
Qualifications and Experience
·         Qualification: Diploma in Education Support and/or Early Childhood Education (or equivalent); Montessori Diploma for 3-6yrs or 6-12yrs (preferred, but not mandatory);
·         Experience: At least 3 years’ experience working in an educational setting, ideally in a Montessori or early childhood/primary environment.
·         Compliance: Current Working with Vulnerable People (WWVP) Card and current First Aid Training (or willingness to obtain).

·         Genuine passion for Montessori education and child development;
·         Ability to build trusting, respectful relationships with children and staff;
·         Strong communication and collaboration skills;
·         Patient and adaptable, with the ability to follow the classroom director’s lead and respond to the needs of the classroom;
·         Willingness to learn and deepen understanding of Montessori philosophy and practice;
·         Familiarity with the structure, materials, and rhythms of a Montessori classroom is highly desirable.

The role is full-time from 8am to 4pm, Monday to Friday. With stand-down time between school terms.
